I love Valentine’s Day- It is a perfect day to take time out to tell the people that you love how much you care about them – life is often busy and it is a great reminder to spread the love. I also love flowers, chocolate and red! I love all things red – red walls, red fabric, red leather, red wallpaper and I love red in my wardrobe (as you can see from my red accessory collection above) and red in my garden too.
Valentine from the Latin, valentinus, means powerful, strong and worthy. All great words to describe a Saint. Did you know that there are 12 Saint Valentines? The St. Valentine who we celebrate is known as St. Valentine of Rome and he was thought to have been beheaded by Emperor Claudius II (around AD270) for helping Christian couples to get married. He is the patron saint of engaged couples and happy marriages as well as beekeeping and epilepsy. Who knew? It may in fact be Geoffrey Chaucer who invented the Valentine’s Day celebration. Chaucer wrote a poem in 1375, “Parliament of Foules”, in which he refers to St. Valentine’s Day as a feast day for courtly love. Valentine’s day celebration started to appear after Chaucer’s poem gained popularity.
This week’s Fashion Friday is dedicated to the red accessories that add spark to any Valentine’s Day outfit. Enjoy the spirit of the day – you don’t need to go out and buy a red dress (unless you want to – that sounds very fun) but you can add spark to whatever you wear with a fun accessory or two that you might already have in your collection. I am going with red nail polish, red lipstick, a chunky heart shaped lucite necklace and a heart embroidered small handbag. How will you spice up your Valentine’s Day outfit?
