Check out these fun and easy table decoration ideas…
The first day of spring is ushered in today with talk of a Nor’Easter snow storm making its way along the east coast. It is sunny and beautiful, a little cold, here at the moment but we are due for some last minute winter tonight and a possible snow day tomorrow. But spring is here, officially, despite the weather forecast. My thoughts have turned to spring and Easter table decorations for the upcoming week of family festivities. Even if you don’t celebrate Easter it is a great time to change your mood from cozy to fresh and get on board with celebrating springtime, more sunshine, longer days, daffodils, tulips and new growth.
Spring cleaning can unearth some dishes and linens that you have not used in ages. Time to dust them off and combine some vintage dessert dishes with your solid color place settings. I find vintage fruit motif dessert plates everywhere these days (my dish cupboard, antique and vintage shops). They may be out of fashion or frumpy on their own but they can take on a fresh, interesting look when combined with some more updated, solid color plates. You can find large solid color plates and chargers at Ikea, Target or more upscale boutiques if you want something more special.
You can spice up your linens with a fresh flower at each place setting and find something fun that you already have around the house to make a place card – I used twine and gift tags – painted rocks, slices of wood, round price tags, cotton ribbon with fabric paint to write the names – the possibilities are endless fun so take a look around and see what you have.
Williams and Sonoma never disappoints with fun Easter place settings, candies and tablescape ideas. They are having a 20% off sale on all things Easter as of this morning – I love the plates with the chicks and rabbits – I think they are great for Easter or any spring gathering.
I love to mix and match patterns. These vintage fruit plates (again) and antique dinner plates make a fun, bright combination for a lovely brunch place setting. Grab what your grandma gave you and mix and match with reckless abandon!
Another of my favorite shops to find all kinds of dishware is Anthropologie. I happened to have gone wild for the barnyard collection, as you will see below. There is no reason your table can’t have a sense of humor at Easter – or at least the “kids table” can make you chuckle. Our gatherings tend to be more laid back and casual so we keep it simple and fresh – cut tulips and hyacinths in mini vases, some adorable ceramic chickens and jellybeans for the center of our Easter table. Whether you decide to head out to the shops and find something new to complete your spring table or dig into your cupboards and find a new way to use something that you have – keep it fresh, simple and don’t be afraid to mix colors and layer your place settings for a little more punch.
Happy spring everyone and if you are in New England, don’t put the shovels away just yet!

I spent much of my youth on a real farm. On a real farm there are real farm smells. to some people these smells are offensive, but to people who are familiar with real farm smells they are comforting and familiar. I don’t know how you translate that to your Easter table. Perhaps you just have to use your imagination. Dewey

I think I will stick with the barnyard Anthropologie plates and skip the “real farm smells” at the dinner table. 🐓
