As much as I feel like I have come to terms with aging and even learned to embrace it and be grateful, after all I am thankful every day to have made it this far, but I would rather not look like a wrinkly old prune if I don’t have to. I am all for aging gracefully and I truly believe that if you are happy and confident you will look your best at any age. A little help in the moisturizing department can go a long way to help me feel comfortable and keep my skin soft and looking younger.
I have always have had dry skin and it can be especially annoying and unsightly around my eyes. A friend turned me on to the miracle of coconut oil. It is beneficial in so many ways. I use it to wash my face every morning and night (terrific anti-bacterial properties, to moisturize around my eyes and décolleté – it is reducing the fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and keeping my dry skin under control.
I use the above brand that I buy at my local Whole Foods Market for about $10 a jar. I like to take a smaller amount from the jar and put it into a smaller glass container (I have an eye cream container leftover from my expensive eye cream days that I clean and reuse) for everyday use. I keep it in my medicine cabinet and use it morning and night – and refill when needed.
When I wash my face I take a small amount of the coconut oil and rub it in to my entire face and neck. It is a great make-up remover. I then use warm water and a wash cloth to wipe the oil off and rinse with cool water. Because my eyes are especially sensitive and dry I often use a little more oil around my eyes after I was my face to help them feel moisturized. In the winter I may use a light layer of the oil as added moisturizer but in the summer, I find that just washing my face with the coconut oil keeps it moisturized all day. It also works wonders on dry elbows and feet and I have also used it on my hair at the beach to protect from the sun and keep hair from drying out in the water.
The coconut oil made my skin feel wonderful right away but the best news is that after a couple of months of consistent use, I noticed changes in the skin on my face – fewer wrinkles, better overall complexion and no more dry skin rashes! Inner beauty is the most important anti-aging treatment but a little coconut oil is the icing on the cake!
